Tower Bridge Fire Protected

Working in partnership with ADT Tyco and Firetec Specialist Services, Checkmate Fire Solutions have recently installed new fire doors, fire barriers and have air sealed the 4 machine rooms and diesel room that operate Tower Bridge.

The rooms are now protected by Novec 1230 gas suppression systems, Checkmate having sealed the rooms to ensure the gas would be adequately contained in a fire situation.

Air sealing the moving spindles that operate the bridge was a particular challenge. A bespoke system was designed, approved and underwritten by a manufacturer’s fire test.

Checkmate were able to satisfy the requirements of all stakeholders, including City of London, Tower Bridge Trust, English Heritage, Tower Hamlets Borough Council Building Control and Southwark Borough Council Building Control.

All work was underwritten by an LPCB Certificate of Conformity which guarantees the work to be fully fire compliant.
